The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates the demand for hotel managers will increase 8 percent between the years 2010 and 2020. The BLS estimates the demand for restaurant managers will decline by 3 percent during the same time span. This demand for hotel and restaurant managers is much lower than the 14 percent average increase for all occupations. With limited jobs available, you should use every selling tool possible to help sell yourself for a hotel or restaurant management position. A letter of application can be an invaluable tool.

Introduce Yourself

Create a short introductory paragraph. In this paragraph, mention you are submitting the letter in application for a hotel or restaurant management position. Tell how you learned of the job vacancy, recommends Michigan State University. Briefly mention how many years of hospitality industry or restaurant management experience you have. If you have a relevant degree in hotel or restaurant management, mention that here. Check the company's website to learn its customer service philosophy. Mention how your customer service philosophy aligns with the company's.

Present Your Skills

In the second paragraph, list a few of the skills and qualifications mentioned in the job vacancy posting, if applicable. Elaborate on how you possess those skills and qualifications. Good skills to list for a hotel or restaurant manager position include overseeing staff, hotel/restaurant operations, attending to hotel guests or restaurant patrons, scheduling, budgeting, inventory, hiring and firing.

List Your Accomplishments

Use a third paragraph to list relevant career accomplishments. Don't be afraid to brag on yourself. You don't have to list every accomplishment you have ever achieved, only two or three that are relevant to the position. This is not the place to list your various job duties for previous jobs. Save the job duties for your actual resume. If you don't have any accomplishments to list, it is OK to omit the accomplishments paragraph.

Request an Interview

The closing paragraph is short and sweet -- two to three sentences max. In the first sentence, mention that you would like to meet with the employer at a mutually convenient time to further discuss the career opportunity. List your contact information in the second sentence, including the best times to reach you. In the final sentence, thank the employer for his time and consideration. Add a professional closing, followed by your name and handwritten signature. Commonly used professional closings include “sincerely” and “respectfully.”
